Mental New Year Reset

There is less than a week left in 2022 and people everywhere are thinking of how they want 2023 to be different. If your mental health was a struggle in 2022 and you are looking to prioritize your mental health in 2023, a Mental New Year reset may be something to consider. Anytime is a great time to make self improvements or mindset changes, waiting until the New Year is not necessary, however I do understand the hype behind the New year and the refreshing start it brings. If you are looking to improve your mental health in 2023, here are three things you can do that do not require the financial component of therapy.

3 Tips for a Mental New Year Reset

  1. Reflect and hold yourself accountable. You may be thinking or rethinking relationships, friendships, and interactions that you are ready to end in 2022 and not take into 2023. While I’m not here to get you to reconsider your decision about these relationships and friendships, I do encourage you to hold yourself accountable about the role you play in these particular situations. Which may include, reflecting on what actions, characteristics, or attributes that you posses that continue to attract these type of people into your life.

  2. Declutter spaces. Decluttering and getting rid of things that no longer serve you or bring you joy is a great way to improve your mental health. Decluttering does not have to be limited to physical spaces, it can also include mental decluttering which may include unfollowing accounts that make you feel negatively about yourself or make you feel envious. Electronic decluttering should also be considered which may include deleting old emails, files, and photos.

  3. Prioritize rest. Rest can not me emphasized enough and was discussed in an earlier post. Rest does not refer to taking a nap or going to bed timely, which are also as equally important. This rest includes taking days off, saying no to things you do not enjoy, outsourcing task, being intentional and present in moments. Black woman, particularly, attach their worth to their productivity and separating the two is going to be a game changer in 2023.

I hope you find these 3 Tips for a Mental Reset helpful and spring into action today! What other tips would you add?
