Money Stress Is Real: How Financial Insecurity Impacts Moms’ Mental Health

Let’s just be honest, mama—money stress hits different when you’re the one holding it all together.

Bills to pay. Kids to care for. Groceries to buy. And in single-parent households, that weight often falls on one set of shoulders—yours.

I’ve been there too.
Feeling stuck in survival mode, juggling everything and trying to stay calm when the numbers just don’t add up.
Waking up in the middle of the night wondering how to make it to the next payday.
Smiling through the stress because your babies are watching.

It’s exhausting. And it takes a toll—not just financially, but emotionally and mentally.

Financial Stress and Mental Health Go Hand in Hand

So many of the moms I work with don’t even realize how deep their financial anxiety runs. It shows up as:

  • Constant overwhelm or irritability

  • Mental fog and difficulty focusing

  • Guilt over spending—even on necessities

  • Feeling disconnected from joy or hope for the future

  • Burnout from doing everything alone

Financial insecurity doesn’t just affect your bank account—it affects your peace.
When you’re in survival mode, it’s nearly impossible to feel calm, confident, or creative. There’s no space to dream, plan, or even breathe.

But I want you to know something important: it doesn’t have to stay this way.

This Is Your Sign to Take Control—with Peace

In a recent Instagram Reel, I shared my own story—how I went from drowning in debt to finally feeling peace with my finances. It wasn’t easy, but it was possible. And you can do it, too.

Here’s what helped me shift from chaos to clarity:

Get Curious About Your Money

Before you make changes, get honest about what’s working and what isn’t.
Where is your money going? What expenses are draining you?
No shame—just information. Awareness is the first step to empowerment.

Create a Hustle Period—with an Expiration Date

Yes, sometimes there’s a season where you go hard—picking up extra shifts, side gigs, or cutting back.
But let it be a season, not a lifestyle. Don’t burn yourself out trying to fix everything overnight.

Be Disciplined (Even When It’s Hard)

There were moments I had to make tough choices. I let go of convenience spending, said no to things that weren’t serving my bigger goals, and kept reminding myself of what I was building: freedom, stability, peace.

You’re Allowed to Ask for Help

One thing I refuse to do now? Suffer in silence.

I talk about money with my clients because so many of us were taught not to. But unspoken stress only grows heavier.

During this journey, I also prioritized my mental health. I needed a space to process the fear, shame, and pressure—and that’s what therapy gave me.

You don’t have to do it all alone.

Consider talking to a professional—someone who can help you create a plan that works for your life while taking care of your emotional wellbeing too.
